After dealing with some family issues and some fibro pain for a while, I finally started creating again. It comes and goes for me. I’m such a perfectionist, that it’s incredibly hard for me to just let go and see where it takes me. I’ve been working very hard to just not think and not worry about being judged. Some interesting things have come out of just letting go. It may just look like paint slapped around, but it represents freedom for me.
Here I am, the always behind girl! I took photos with my phone, didn’t edit them, and I’m just going to go ahead and upload them! My craft room is a small 10×10 space, that’s supposed to be the study in our home. We have four kids, so for a long time, we used it as a fourth bedroom for our youngest daughter. When my two sons moved out and went to college, my daughter stole their much bigger room, which left this room open to be used as a guest room or my craft room. Easy choice! Duh!
These are the views from the doorway.
This is my cart that I pile projects on. If my fibro gets really bad, I’ll fill the cart with art supplies, so I can roll it into the living room or my bedroom, to work from the couch or bed.
The frames I plan on hanging above the window as a sort of window treatment. I keep meaning to get to that, but I do procrastinate just slightly.
This used to be our living room entertainment center. At some point I decided it was too big for the room, so we moved it to the shed, where it sat gathering dust. Then one day, it dawned on me, how much good stuff I would be able to store in it and back in it came
Of course Henry has to “help” me with everything I do in this room. He walks through paint, knocks things over, jumps and climbs to get on top of the big storage cabinet, then knocks everything off. In the bottom picture he’s trying to dig a piece of paint off the window. He’s a strange little guy. Maybe not so little….
The rest of these are just random pictures I took all around the room.
I love this space so much and feel so lucky to have it. Thanks so much for visiting! Here’s the link to the Where Bloggers Create page, if you want to go and check out tons of amazing craft rooms and art studios. http://www.mydesertcottage.com/2013/06/are-you-ready-to-be-inspired-again.html?m=0
Edited to add: Sorry about the size of the pictures! Apparently that’s what happens when you don’t choose the right size when uploading from your phone. Husband and I are going on our 20th anniversary trip this week, so I probably won’t have time to fix them anytime soon.
I’ve been trying to pay no attention to any kind of design in my art journaling. I’ve been just just slapping paint wherever with no thought behind it. It’s been really fun actually, and feel like I’m getting some frustration out. My fibro has been very bad lately, so my art journal is my outlet.
I also decided to experiment with making my own dyes the other night. I took gel food coloring and mixed it with alcohol. I really liked the way it turned out.
Here I basically just flung the homemade dyes at the page to see how it turned out. I’m sure it will be one of those pages I go back and work on over and over again until it feels finished.
I am enjoying my newly organized craft room SO much. A place for everything and everything in its place makes me so much more calm, and it’s so much easier for me to be creative. Here are a few things I’ve done in the last two days.
I’ve started working in an 11×14 art journal, and I LOVE it! I had a whole plan in my head for this entry, but I put the paint down and decided it was done. It just made me feel good, so I set it to the side and called it finished.
Then I’ve done a couple of collages. Collage is my favorite way to relax. It’s the only time I can turn all the chatter in my brain completely off. It’s sort of like putting a puzzle together for me.
The first one has copies I made of women from an antique department store catalog. The second was just fun on a bingo card I found in all my junk.
I’m so close to being done with my craft room! All I have left is the window treatment and to hang some of my old windows above my work table. I don’t want to post many pictures now, because I want to save them for Where Bloggers Create, but here’s a shot I took with my phone of my work space.
